Ebook {Epub PDF} Backpack by Emily Barr

Emily Barr has written a refreshing take on the life of a late twenty-something girl searching for true love and happiness - amidst a backpacking lifestyle. Especially enjoyable was the part when Tansy first arrives in Saigon - I nearly fell out of my chair laughing at her crabby exchange with some local children.5/5(5). Having read/listened to other books by Emily Barr, I had no qualms in using my monthly credit to download 'Backpack'. I found out that 'Backpack' is one of Emily Barr's early books; in fact I believe it is her first, and as I am familiar with her style and plot choices in later books, I did see the main reveal at the end of the book coming. Backpack by Emily Barr opens with Tansy burying her Mother, the end of a lifetime of care that frees her up to leave her job and go travelling. Young Tansy is not a likeable character as she jets off to Vietnam, her demons plague the prose - alcoholism, drug-taking you name it.4/5(78).

On re-reading Backpack, I discovered that whilst I do love a romantic story, I don't want it to be plain sailing all the way. In fact, I relish a story with a bit of an edge. Emily Barr certainly delivers! Glamorous locations, believable characters, a kind romantic interest all mixed in with drink, drugs and murders. Sign me Up! Tansy has to escape from her London life. Shes desperate to get away from her media job, her coke habit, her dead mother and her selfish boyfriend. But she finds travelling through Asia more smelly than romantic and, besides, shes missing her boyfriend. However, she is determined not to give in, give up or go home. As.
